Formation of Sanjeewan Vidyalaya Trust

The Beginning - Its earliest space was a small cottage
In 1922, two idealist brothers, Shri Raosaheb Pandit and Shri Krishnarao Pandit, and their close friend Shri Vasunana Kalamkar, decided to devote their lives to education and started a school in Panchgani. The hill resort even then, was full of denominational groups, particularly Anglo-Indian and missionary schools which accepted Western norms and values as their framework. In contrast, the new school adopted an
ideology more in keeping with Indian forms and values such as the Gurukul system. Thus Sanjeewan Vidyalaya came to be established.
The school was started with just 3 students who rose to prominence in their chosen walks of life. After raising the school both in stature and size (350 boarders), 1956, the Pandit brothers handed over the school to a Board of Trustees.

The Board of Trustees consisted of the following members:

  1. Mr. M.V. Pandit, Mr. K.V. Pandit (teachers)

  2. Mr. J.G. Bodhe (a renowned engineer and Sheriff of Bombay)

  3. Mr. J.K. Munshi (a well known lawyer)

  4. Dr. N.A. Kalyani (acknowledged entrepreneur, Chairman - Bharat Forge)

  5. Mr. Babubhai Chinai (a renowned businessman)

  6. Mr. Sharad Pandit (a visionary and a sportsman) was appointed as the First Principal of Sanjeewan Vidyalaya

The trust helped the school grow under the imaginative and
the dynamic leadership of the late Shri Sharad Pandit, who
assumed charge as Principal in 1956. But the Principal, along
with his colleagues had to work hard throughout 1956 to 1983 - to achieve a brilliant efflorescence as a residential
school, to crystallize its form and direction of growth.

Over the ensuing decades, subsequent principals contributed significantly to the growth and reputation of the school. The ethos on which the school was founded was never forgotten. Generations of graduating students are now well-entrenched in their communities. They are easily able to adapt to the changing times and are socially aware thereby enriching the lives of others with their achievements in literature, arts, sciences, sports and even the spiritual sphere.
