WHAT IS IGCSE?

(Cambridge Secondary II - Grade 9 and 10)
The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is a comprehensive two-year programme, spread over Class 9 and 10, leading to the final examinations taken at the Class 10 level.
It is a globally recognized qualification, similar to the Class 10 examinations of the SSC, ICSE, CBSE, British GCSE, International GCE O Level examinations or the Middle Years Programme of the IB.

  • A student is expected to choose minimum 7 subjects, preferably one from each block.
  • A subject will be offered by the school only if minimum 5 students opt for it.
  • Students could also opt for an additional qualification- The International Certificate of Education (ICE), depending on the subjects they select.

HOW AND WHERE IS THE ASSESSMENT DONE??

Assessment for Cambridge IGCSE includes written and oral tests, coursework and practical assessment. Schools have the option of assessing learners using only external examinations or, in most subjects, combining examinations with coursework. Coursework is set and marked by the teacher and externally moderated by Cambridge.

  • At the Cambridge International Centre in UK.
  • Twice a year –Exams are conducted either in May/June or Nov with results issued in Aug and Feb respectively whereas local board results are out by June and college admissions are over by July.
  • Results issued in August and February.
  • Each learner’s performance is benchmarked using eight internationally recognised grades. There are clear guidelines which explain the standard of achievement for different grades.(An eight point scale of grades-A*, A, B, C, D, E, F.)
  • Grade A* is awarded for the highest achievement level while Grade G is minimum performance level.
  • Students appear for the IGCSE examinations conducted by CIE at the end of Grade-10. Exams are conducted twice a year i.e. in May / June Session & October / November Session. Our Students would be appearing for the May / June Session.
  • Students are assessed by various assessment methods such as coursework, practical exercises, oral & listening tests, projects & written examinations.

DOES MUMBAI OR ANY OTHER UNIVERSITY ACCEPT IGCSE & A/AS LEVELS??

The following is extracted from the notification provided by the Ministry of Human Resource Development website –

As per the AIU (Association of Indian Universities). 5(five) passes at IGCSE in Grade A, B and C and minimum 2 (two) passes at A level examination of the British examining bodies is equivalent to +2 stage qualification which is the minimum eligibility requirement for admission to Bachelor degree programme at Indian Universities‖.

WHAT AFTER IGCSE??

  • A student who has passed IGCSE is eligible for any 10+2 level qualification like: Local Boards -Class 12 CBSE/ ISC /HSC. Or International pre-university programme- IB Diploma(International Baccalaureate)
  • Advanced Placement Diploma (US), and the seamless transition to AS and A Levels, AICE (UK) offered by the University of Cambridge U.K.
  • Three fair passes at ‘A‘ level allows students to skip a year in US, UK and Canadian Universities

WILL THE SCHOOL PROVIDE TEXTBOOKS FOR THE CAMBRIDGE CURRICULUM??

The school has made arrangement for the purchase of the textbooks, endorsed by the University of Cambridge. Parents would be informed about the name of the Book Seller and books can be purchased by the parents there at a discount.
